Kartograph und Herausgeber: Abraham ORTELIUS (Antwerp 1527 - 1598).
Die Karte geht zurück auf Zeichnungen des berühmten Kartographen Gudbrandur Thorlaksson (1541 - 1627), dessen berühmteste Arbeit die Island Karte ist.
Diese prachtvolle Karte von ISLANDIA wurde in Abraham Ortelius "Theatrum oribis terrarum" herausgebracht, in der lateinischen Ausgabe von 1603 A.D., gedruckt 1603 A.D.
Landkarte ISLANDIA mit den Kenn-Buchstaben für die See-Ungeheuer und ca. 250 topographischen Bezeichnungen.

Prachtvoll alt-kolorierter Kupferstich. Karte mit originaler Mittelfalte.
Zustand: ausgezeichneter Druck mit Rand. Kräftiges Bütten mit sichtbarer Rippenstruktur des alten Schöpfsiebes, bitte sehen Sie unten das grünliche Durchlichtfoto. Außerhalb der Darstellung am Rand kleine Ergänzungen, wenig sichtbar. Kleine Risse (überwiegend im Rand) fachgerecht geschlossen. Verso wenige alte Retuschen. Verso dünne Stellen mit feinstem Japan-Papier hinterlegt. Kein Textverlust. Altersbedingter, guter Erhaltungszustand. Keine Schäden.

Famous Map of ISLANDIA * Iceland, antique copper engraving, print dated the year 1603 A.D. beautifully hand coloured.
Cartographer/publisher: Abraham ORTELIUS (Antwerp 1527 - 1598).
The famous cartographer Gudbrandur Thorlaksson (1541 - 1627) noted for having drawn the first good Map of Iceland 1590 A.D. one of his most important works.
This splendid map of Islandia was published in Abraham Ortelius "Theatrum orbis terrarum" the Latin edition dated the year 1603 A.D. with key letters for Sea-Monsters and about 250 Topographical names.
Described and dated in the plate.

Wonderful old coloured copper engraving. Map with the original middlefold.
Condition: excellent print with margin. Handwork paper with the horizontal laid chains and vertical chain lines produced by the scoop sieve, please see the greenish transmitted light photo. Outside the print in the margin small completions, hardly to be seen. Small tears (mostly in the margin) professionally closed. Verso few backed thin places with very fine Japonese-paper. Verso few old retouchings. No text loss. Paper professionally cleaned. In view of the high age in good condition with few traces of ageing. No damages.
